We help young people gain the skills they need to shine bright

Welcome to Derby North District

Derby North is one of the largest Scout Districts in Derbyshire, serving the suburbs to the north and west of Derby City — from Darley Abbey through Mickleover, and on to Etwall and Hilton.

We’re home to 11 Scout Groups, most of which offer Beavers (6–8 years), Cubs (8–10½ years), and Scouts (10½–14 years). Several also have Squirrels (4–6 years) — our newest section for the youngest adventurers. For older young people, we have 3 Explorer Scout Units and a dedicated Young Leaders’ Unit for those aged 14–18.

Our sections meet weekly during term time, offering fun, active programmes that include games, badge work, and outdoor adventures. Many also run exciting extra activities such as camps, nights away, fun days, and trips to places of interest.

All of this is made possible by our fantastic team of adult volunteers. We’re always looking for more people to get involved — whether to help support a section, open new ones, or share a skill. Could you be our next volunteer?

While many of our groups do have waiting lists, places often become available unexpectedly — so it’s always worth enquiring!

Adult Volunteers

The Scouts award-winning training scheme for volunteers means that adults get as much from Scouts as young people.
